Julie: Moje pravá noha / My right foot

V sobotu jsme měli takové menší drama. Julinka měla už nějakou dobu na noze (zespodu na chodidle) bradavici. To není žádná hrůza, dávají se na to takové náplasti. Ale když jsme se na to v sobotu podívali, zjistili jsme, že to má celé hrozně zanícené. Hned jsme ji vzali na nejbližší pohotovost, do Bury St Edmunds.

V té době už měla Julinka teplotu okolo 38,5°C. Báli jsme se, že se ta infekce mohla rozšířit a že by to mohla být otrava krve. Julinka šla nejprve na rychlé vyšetření k nějaké odborn sestře, potom na rentgen (aby měli jistotu, že tam nejsou žádná cizí tělesa - kus skla, bodlina od mořského ježka nebo tak něco), potom k doktorce a potom ji šupem poslali na dětské oddělení, kde jí hned dali lůžko a nohu si prohlédl pediatr a pak ortoped. Napíchli jí do žíly kapačku (napočtvrté, protože nemohli najít žílu) a začali do Julinky hned pumpovat antibiotika.

To už bylo víceméně jasné, že bylo dobře, že jsme ji přivedli. Bolák Julince umrtvili a propíchli, aby tam neměla takový tlak. Přes noc zůstala v nemocnici, Iveta s ní. Naštěstí na to bylo to oddělení připravené, měli k dispozici lůžka pro rodiče.

Druhý den ráno bylo po vizitě rozhodnuto, že se bude operovat. Nejhorší na tom bylo, že Julča nesměla celý den jíst, měla jen snídani. Kolem půl čtvrté odvezli Julinku na operační sál a uspali ji (dělalo se to v celkové narkóze). Iveta byla u Julinky, když ji uspávali. Za půl hodinky bylo po operaci, za další půlhodinu se Julča začala probouzet. Nejvíc byla překvapená z toho, že si vůbec nepamatovala, jak usnula :-)

Julča i Iveta ještě zůstali v nemocnici přes noc, aby byla J. po operaci pod kontrolou a taky protože byla ještě na těch antibiotikách přes kapačky. V pondělí kolem poledne vyfasovala Julinka pohodlné dětské berličky (protože na to nemůže ještě úplně došlapovat) a mohl jsem si je odvézt domů.

Tak, to bylo naše víkendové povyražení. Ale musím říct, že to dětské oddělení v Bury je hrozně pohodové a přístup personálu byl par excellence.



On Saturday we‘ve had a little drama at home. For some time now, Julia has had a verruca on the sole of her right foot. That is no big deal as it can be treated with some special plasters. But when we looked at it on Saturday we found out that it all got horribly inflamed. So we immediately took off for the nearest E&A in Bury St Edmunds.

By that time Julia’s temperature went up to 38.5 Celsius. We were really scared that the infection might have spread which could then lead to blood poisoning. When we arrived to the hospital Julia was seen by triage nurse first, then went for X-ray to make sure there are no foreign bodies – like piece of glass or sea-urchin’s spine etc. Then a doctor saw her and sent her straight to the Rainbow Unit, which is a children’s department of the hospital. Julia was given a bed and a paediatrician and an orthopaedist came in to see her. Julia got the cannula (it did not work until fourth try as the doctor could not find a good vein) and they started pumping the antibiotics in Julia straight away.

By that time it was pretty obvious it was good thing we came. Doctors anaesthetised the inflamed bit of Julia’s foot and pierced it to relieve the pressure. She stayed in hospital overnight. Fortunatelly, the department was ready for similar scenarios so Iveta got her own bed and stayed with Julia.

The next morning after the doctors came to look at it, they have decided to clean it properly and do a little surgery. The worst bit about that was the fact that Julia was not allowed to eat anything since breakfast. Around 3.30pm they took Julia to the anaesthetic department and put her to sleep as the surgery was to be done in general anaesthetics. Iveta was able to be with her as they were putting Julia to sleep. The surgery was over in about 30 minutes and in another 30 minutes Julia started waking up. Her biggest surprise was how she could not remember falling asleep :-)

Both Julia and Iveta stayed another night in the hospital as Julia needed to be supervised after the surgery and she was still getting her antibiotics via IV. On Monday noon Julia got her fancy little kiddie-size crutches (she should not put her full weight on the right foot yet) and I picked both my girls and brought them home.

Well, so much for our weekend amusement. I have to say, though, that the Rainbow Ward in Bury is absolutely great and the approach and attitude of their staff is simply excellent. Many thanks!
